In his first letter to Timothy, St. Paul writes: No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments (1 Timothy 5:23). His stomach troubles are documented in a canonical New Testament letter, making him the saint whose health condition is literally in the Bible.

St. Timothy was a companion of St. Paul, bishop of Ephesus, and was martyred around 97 AD. His feast day is January 26. Catholics with chronic stomach conditions, IBS, digestive disorders, and gastrointestinal illness wear his medal as a sign of asking for his intercession.
