Sts. Cosmas & Damian Medals
Sts. Cosmas and Damian were twin brothers — Arab Christians who practiced medicine in 3rd-century Cilicia and refused payment for their services. They were known as the Anargyri — the Holy Unmercenaries — because they treated every patient regardless of ability to pay. Martyred around 303 AD during the Diocletianic Persecution, they are among the few saints named in the Roman Canon of the Mass, making them among the most honored saints in the entire Latin Rite.
Sts. Cosmas and Damian are the patron saints of surgeons, physicians, pharmacists, dentists, and all medical professionals. Their medals are worn by doctors, nurses, surgeons, and those preparing for surgery. They are a meaningful gift for anyone entering or working in the medical profession, and a traditional prayer companion before any surgical procedure.
The most famous miracle attributed to them — the Miracle of the Black Leg — describes them appearing in a dream and surgically replacing a dying man's cancerous leg, establishing them as patrons of transplant surgery as well as conventional procedures. Their feast day is September 26.
Our Sts. Cosmas and Damian medals are handcrafted in the USA by Bliss Manufacturing in sterling silver, gold-filled, and 14K solid gold — each with a limited lifetime guarantee.
