St. Alphonsus Liguori Medals

St. Alphonsus Liguori (1696–1787) was an Italian bishop, founder of the Redemptorists, Doctor of the Church, and one of the most prolific Catholic writers in history. Born into a noble Neapolitan family, he earned his doctorate at age 16, practiced law, and abandoned a brilliant legal career after a religious conversion at age 27 to become a priest. He founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists) in 1732, was appointed bishop in 1762, and died in 1787 at age 90. He was canonized in 1839 and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1871.

St. Alphonsus is best known to most Catholics as the author of the Spiritual Communion Prayer — one of the most widely prayed Catholic prayers when sacramental Communion is not possible. He is the patron saint of confessors, moral theologians, and those suffering from arthritis. His feast day is August 1.

Our St. Alphonsus Liguori medals are handcrafted in the USA by Bliss Manufacturing in sterling silver, gold-filled, and 14K solid gold — each with a limited lifetime guarantee.
